If you’re a ’90s rom-com fan, you must be familiar with Meg Ryan’s character, Kathleen Kelly, who lived in a charming Upper West Side brownstone in You’ve Got Mail. The film, which came out in 1998, was not that far off from Ryan’s reality at the time. Just across Central Park, on the Upper East Side, Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid had bought their own Manhattan spread just a year earlier.
The couple picked up this Fifth Avenue co-op for $3.1 million in 1997 and sold it amid their split in 2001, according to the New York Post. Their former 12th-floor love nest has now popped on the market seeking $7.4 million—more than double what the famous pair paid 26 years ago.
Far from the neutral palettes that adorn many high-end residences today, the three-bedroom unit is not afraid of color. Of course, a new owner may repaint, but it simply shows how much personality the spaces can display. Views of Central Park are aplenty throughout the timelessly appealing home. It boasts a living room, dining room, and updated chef’s kitchen. The primary suite offers privacy and views of the park, with a walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom. The two other bedrooms are connected by a Jack and Jill bathroom.
It is no surprise that the high-profile actors were attracted to 1136 Fifth Avenue since it offers white glove service. With a live-in manager, full-time doorman, and full-time elevator operator, residents here don’t need to lift a finger.
