Four years ago, you may have flipped through an issue of CTC&G (which just had its 20th anniversary!) and seen a gorgeous barn designed for stylish entertaining. If you desperately wish to have the sophisticated, red party barn for yourself, now you’re in luck. The eight-acre estate in Greenwich where it sits as a secondary structure to a stately Colonial is up for grabs, recently listing for $7.9 million.
Architectural firm Ike Kligerman Barkley has been integral to the property’s revitalization under the current owners. From 2007 to 2009, the architects helped refresh the historic main house and usher it into the 21st century. Then, and in 2014, they completely rebuilt the decaying barn. Bringing designer Terri Ricci on board for the exciting barn project, which aimed to create a destination for all ages to hang out, Ike Kligerman Barkley examined the former floorplan and focused on making a huge, open great room. While Ricci wanted to use as many barn details as possible for authenticity, there was room for imagination.
“The main house dates from the 1800s and has had years of renovations and additions, so there are a lot smaller rooms. Since the barn is an open space with fewer constraints, we were able to get more creative. It wasn’t the clients’ everyday space, so we could push the envelope a little bit more,” says Ricci. Glass, midcentury touches, and vintage finds all coexist with an overarching airy feel, as the CTC&G feature shows. Ready for laidback gatherings or formal soirées, it also offers amenities like a pizza oven on the patio, a wine cellar, a catering kitchen, media room, and more.
Including the main house nearby, the estate offers 9,937 square feet of living space and seven bedrooms. Gideon Fountain of Houlihan Lawrence has brought it to market.
